Inch values from published US supplier gauge tables (Metal Supermarkets); millimeters = inches × 25.4. “—” means the gauge is not listed for that material, not that it does not exist.
BEFORE YOU CONVERT
There is no single gauge-to-mm formula.
A gauge number is a row in a material’s table, not a unit. 16 gauge is 1.519 mm in mild steel, 1.587 mm in stainless, 1.613 mm in galvanized and 1.291 mm in aluminum. Always convert with the table for the material you are actually buying.
Sheet metal gauge is also unrelated to wire gauge (AWG/SWG) and to the gauge used for jewelry and needles. A converter built for wire will give the wrong answer for sheet.
The mm → gauge lookup returns the closest listed nominal value. It does not tell you the sheet is that gauge — mill tolerance can put a real sheet between two rows.
